Birdbaths 🐦 need regular cleaning to be successful for birds to use. Bath water should be no more than 2" deep, ideal is 1 to 2 inches. When your bath needs cleaning use a soft brush and any mild soapy water like dawn dishwasher liquid to clean. Flush with water until clear. Stubborn stains can be cleaned by filling with a small amount of bleach water for about 10 minutes, then flush with water until clear. To keep your bird baths in good shape year to year, it is best to seal the bowl once a year and also their stands to keep from rust. Use a clear Krylon spray sealant called triple thick crystal-clear glaze paint, high gloss, clear 12 oz., available at Lowes and Walmart. Rust-Oleum 2X clears will also work and come in gloss, satin, and matte for your liking. With careful attention your bird bath should last for years. If you experience an unexpected breakdown, please contact me. I will try to make it right.
Baltimore Orioles love 🍇 grape jelly. These Jelly Feeders will help facilitate the dispensing of the grape jelly and allow Orioles easy access to it. They are made from recycled materials, pot covers, lamp parts and other materials to support reusing and recycling and avoid landfill dumping of these items. Put your feeders out already in early spring, April - May. Just add clumps of jelly to the bottom lid/tray. Most Feeders come apart for cleaning but Orioles are not too particular about cleanliness so you should only need to clean them when you take them down and put them away during cold winters. They are assembled on threaded rod with various bolts so always check the tightness of all bolts from time to time to be sure they are secure and will not come apart while hanging. Closer to fall you may notice hornets frequenting the feeder (yellow hornets and black bald face hornets). When they become aggressive it is a good idea to take your feeders down so you or the Birds do not get stung. You may notice other birds also enjoying your jelly like woodpeckers, grosbeaks and house finches, so be prepared to supply jelly regularly. Generic grape jelly works just fine. I have not used other flavors since grape seems to be a favorite. If you experience any trouble with your feeder please contact me. I will be happy to help resolve any issues. Once your birds have found your feeder, enjoy the show, they and their offspring will return year to year for more.
